Thriving in Nigeria: Be Intentional

The Challenges of Doing Business and Finding Work in NigeriaNigeria presents a challenging landscape for both entrepreneurs and job seekers, shaped by significant trust issues, economic instability, limited institutional support, and human development struggles. Trust is a critical factor but is often in short supply due to widespread corruption, fraudulent practices, and weak enforcement of contracts.

This lack of trust hampers business partnerships and makes job seekers hesitant to commit to opportunities that may not deliver as promised. Adding to this is the stress and anxiety induced by a volatile economy marked by inflation, unemployment, and unpredictable government policies, which create a precarious environment for sustainable growth. The low support for businesses—manifesting as limited access to credit, poor infrastructure, and bureaucratic red tape—further stifles innovation and growth, while Nigeria’s ranking on the Human Development Index underscores the struggles with education, healthcare, and quality of life that impact workforce readiness and productivity.

This presentation, created by Stephanie Pius Akpan, CEO of Africulture GBC at the Family Circle Masterclass on Saturday July 7th, 2024, in Port Harcourt, aims to address these pressing issues and propose actionable solutions. Its objectives are to discuss the greatest challenges faced in doing business and finding fulfilling work in Nigeria, identify obstacles to exponential professional and business growth, and emphasize the critical role of trust in achieving success. It also highlights the growing emotional and mental health challenges within the business and workplace environment, offering strategies to mitigate these through planning and resilience.

The presentation seeks to empower individuals and organizations with insights into overcoming these hurdles and achieving sustainable success in Nigeria's unique business climate.
