Networking is the deliberate process of exchanging information, resources, support, and access in such a way as to create mutually beneficial relationships for personal and professional success.
There are two things that we need to do first when planning to engage a networking strategy:
First thing we need to work on in our efforts to improve our networking skills, is to change our attitude.
Thinking positively about networking will give you the motivation to leap right in and start learning to be the best that you can be.
Every business person wants one thing - more income. The ability to contribute to increase in the revenue of those that we meet is the cornerstone to networking with high-networth individuals (HNIs).
Strategic Networking enables you to build a network of solid business relationships that can yield unimaginable dividends in the long term. It is also far more rewarding than talking about your products when being introduced to others or cold-calling strangers and acquaintances to sell things to them that they might never want to buy.
Develop a Networking Business Plan
The strength of your network depends on how many people know you so well that when resources and opportunities drop into their lives, you pop into their mind as the person to call.
Short-term strategies will only yield short-term results. We are all in the business of selling goods or services. Everyone is - including the job seeker. Therefore honing your networking skills and learning how to make your contacts count are key to your success.
When networking with business owners, always bear in mind that many of them feel lonely because they think that no one is willing to help them to grow their businesses. That is the reason they do not need a 'me, me, me' approach; but an approach that says "you can count on me to bring more business your way".
You will need to develop a networking business plan so as to be strategic and intentional about your networking activities.
The first questions that you need to ask and answer are:
• What is your current situation?
• What are your goals?
Once you can answer these questions you can then plan your networking activities and strategies around your stated goals.
